Commissioner request 4 billion rupees for the General Election
After declaring the dates for the General Election, Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya convened a media briefing today to enlighten the media with regard to the matter.
He stated that political parties and independent groups can deposit their cash bonds from today until the 13th of next month.
The Election Commissioner also stated that he has decided to send letters to the political parties, requesting them to inform him regarding the parties intending to contest in the election.
The Election Commissioner further said that applications for postal votes will be accepted from the 3rd to the 10th of July. However, since candidates will learn their eligibility on the 13th, the date has been extended until the 14th of July.
Therefore, applications for postal votes will be accepted from the 3rd to 14th of July.
In addition, Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya also requested the IGP and the government officials not to transfer any government officers without informing him
He also stated that the General Election can be implemented for a cost less than Rs. 4 billion.

General Election according to 2014 voters' register: official announcement from Election Commissioner
The Election Commissioner convened a media briefing regarding the General Election this morning.
Even though the 2015 voters’ register is prepared, a communiqué was not released thus far regarding which voters’ list would be used for the General Election.
During today’s media briefing, Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya confirmed that 2014 voters’ register will be used.
Election Commissioner has sent letters to all registered political parties enquiring if they would contest for the upcoming General Election.
The political parties should inform the Election Commissioner whether they would contest individually or as an alliance.
