President agrees to give nominations to Mahinda under the Alliance ticket
The 6 member committee appointed to coordinate between President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is scheduled to hand over its report to President Maithripala Sirisena today.
This was stated by the committee president and former MP W.D.J. Senevirathne.
In addition, a member of the same committee and former MP T.B. Ekanayake told Hiru TV "Paththare Wisthare" newspaper program this morning that the President has consented to give nominations to former president under the UPFA ticket.
Meanwhile, UPFA General Secretary and former MP Susil Premajayantha returned to the country this morning after a private visit overseas.
T.B. Ekanayake also said to "Paththare Wisthare" program that UPFA General Secretary Premajayantha was also of the opinion that UFPA should give nominations to the former President.
However SLFP Deputy Secretary and Minister Duminda Dissanayake said that UFPA General Secretary Premajayantha has no authority to take a single handed decision over this issue.
The UFPA is comprised of 14 coalitions, and its executive council is represented by 58 members.
Half of the membership is represented by SLFP members and President Maithripala Sirisena is the President of the executive council.
Meanwhile, a meeting is scheduled to be held this afternoon between UFPA’s left-winged coalitions and President Maithripala Sirisena.
The meeting would focus on the forthcoming general election.
SLFP Deputy Secretary Duminda Dissanayake expressed his views to our news team with regard to the meeting scheduled for the afternoon.
