Susil and Anura Yapa to meet former President in Kandy
Two General Secretaries of SLFP and UPFA Anura Priyadharshana Yapa and Susil Premajayanth are expected to meet former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Kandy today.
President of the 6 member committee appointed to coordinate between President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, W. D. J. Seneviratne says the two general secretaries have already left for Kandy.
Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva, UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayanth and SLFP General secretary Anura Priyadharshana Yapa met President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday to discuss the ways and means of contesting the forthcoming general election.
It is said that the two general secretaries would inform the former president the conclusions those were made at the yesterday’s meeting, when they meet him in Kandy today.
The report prepared by the 6 member committee to coordinate between President Maithreepala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has not been handed over to the president as yet.
When contacted the committee president W. D. J. Seneviratne told our news team that he has not received an appoint to meet the president.
He further stated that they expect to hand over the report to the president after the two General Secretaries of UPFA and SLFP come to Colombo.
Meanwhile, a supporter of Bring Back Mahinda group and former MP Ranjith de Zoysa said that Mahinda Rajapaksa would be nominated the UPFA prime ministerial candidate tomorrow at Madamulana.
At the same time, former President’s media coordinator Rohan Weliwita stated that former President Rajapaksa is scheduled to make a special statement from Weeraketiya Madamulana tomorrow at 10 o’clock in the morning.
Meanwhile, the SLFP nomination board met for the first time at its party headquarters this morning.
A nomination board member told our news team that 182 prospective applicants from the Western and the North Western provinces would be interviewed today.
