Former MP Keheliya Rambukwella revealed today that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa would contest for the forthcoming General Election as the team leader.

He disclosed this after Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva, UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha and SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa held discussions with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Kandy this afternoon.

Former MP Keheliya Rambukwella also said that the outcome of the negotiations they had with President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday was informed to the former President today.

Meanwhile, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s media unit issued a communiqué this afternoon.

The communiqué stated that SLFP Chairman and President Maithripala Sirisena has not announced that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has accepted the party Prime Ministerial candidacy.

At the same time, SLFP has planned to conclude its selections of candidates for the forthcoming general election by next Friday.

The communiqué also stated that none in the nomination list has been named as the Prime Ministerial candidate.

However, our attempt to contact Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva, UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha and SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa became futile.

Meanwhile, former MP Ranjith de Soyza who supports former President’s faction says that the naming of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa for Prime Ministerial candidacy will take place at Meda Mulana tomorrow.

A religious ceremony was held in Kandy under the patronage of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa today.
