Update : Former President Mahinda makes a special statement

While making a special statement at Meda Mulana today, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated that he is ready to contest in the upcoming General Election.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa made a request to the people to support him in his journey by rectifying the shortcomings and proceeding with patriotism.

Former Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa as well as former parliamentarians Kumara Welgama, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, S.M. Chandrasena and R. Duminda Silva in addition to former MPs Malani Fonseka, Pavithra Vanniarachchi, Kamala Ranatunga also participated.

Former MPs T.B. Ekanayake, Johnston Fernando, Keheliya Rambukwella, Chandima Weerakkodi, Wimal, Weerawansa, Dinesh Gunawardena, Nishantha Muthuhettigama, Tissa Karalliyadda and Manusha Nanayakkara were also among the participants.

Scores of MPs including Tissa Vitharana and Sarana Gunawardena also participated for the meeting.

Representatives of Provincial councils and local government institutes including Sabaragamuwa PC Chief Minister Maheepala Herath as well as former North Central PC Chief Minister S.M. Ranjith attended the event, while former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and former Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva were also present among those gathered at Meda Mulana.

Making his special statement, former president Rajapaksa said what he possess was only the confidence of the people.

While inviting all parties to join hands with him, he said that he has not even dreamt of betraying the country or the party and that he’s not contesting for political vengeance but to build the country.

Expressing further, former President said that despite all allegations aimed at him, all he has possessed were the sincere hearts of the people who love this country.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa also stated that he has accepted the will of the people and he will contest the upcoming General Election on behalf of the country. He also said that all races should unite and support their journey.

Although former president Mahinda Rajapaksa announced that he would contest the forthcoming general election, it is not clear under what party ticket he intends to contest.

When our news team enquired regarding the matter from former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, he said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has made a statement that he will contest the upcoming General Election under UPFA ticket.

Former President Mahinda’s special statement in Medamulana today

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is expected to make a special statement in Medamulana today.

His Media Secretary stated that this statement will be made at 11.10 this morning which will focus on his future political aspiration.

A vehicle parade is also expected to commence near the Vishnu Devala in Devinuwara and proceed towards Medamulana, with the participation of former Ministers, Parliamentarians and Provincial Councillors requesting the Former President to contest the next election.

Meanwhile issuing a communiqué the SLFP stated that the party Chairman President Maithripala Sirisena has taken no decision to accept Former President Rajapaksa as the Prime Ministerial candidate nor will an announcement made to the same.

However, former MP Keheliya Rambukwella stated that Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa would be the team leader for the forthcoming election.

Meanwhile, speaking at a meeting held at the Aluth-nuwara Devala in Mawanella, Former President Rajapaksa stated that the value of the Rupee had decreased.Kamala Ranathunga
