Advanced Level applicants increase by 12,000

The Department of Examination stated that an additional 12,756 candidates will be facing the Advanced level examination this year in comparison to the previous year.

Commissioner General of the Department W.M.N.J Pushpakumara stated that the number of A/L candidates in the previous year was 296,313.

However, 309,069 candidates will be sitting for the exam this year.

Among them, 236,072 are school applicants.

The time table of the A/L examination was revised due to the General Election being held on the 17th of August

Accordingly the first stage of the A/L exam will be held from 4th to 13th August, while the 2nd stage will be held from 24th of August to 8th of September.

Grade 5 Scholarship Examination will be held on the 23rd of August as previously scheduled.

The Education Ministry made a statement yesterday that the 3rd term of schools conducting the A/L examination will commence on the 9th of September.

In addition, all schools which are not venues for holding the A/L exam will reopen for the 3rd term on the 31st of August.
