The Sinhala Ravaya lodged a petition with the Election Commissioner today against Industrial and Commerce Minister Rishard Baduideen that workers have been recruited to the Pulmudai Mineral Sands Corporation during elections.

Pulmudai Mineral Sands Corporation workers say that over 60 new workers have been recruited illegally.

They stated that the letters of appointments issued to these new workers carry an alternative signature on behalf of its chairman.

Consequently, these illegal workers have staged a protest as corporation administrative officer Anula Thilakarathna refused to accept their letters of appointment.

Later, the crowd has surrounded the administrative officer’s office and detained her for several hours.

Later, Pulmudai police has evacuated her and admitted to Trincomalee hospital.

Pulmudai Mineral Sands Corporation Administrative Officer Anula Thilakarathna expressed her views to our news team.

Meanwhile, workers attached to the head office of the Mineral Sands Corporation at Rajagiriya have launched a protest.

Pulmudai Mineral Sands Corporation comes under the purview of Industry and Commerce Ministry.

The Election Commissioner has already stated that providing employments in stated institutions is illegal as an election has been called.
