Update: Supreme Court Judge Sarath Abrew released on bail after surrender

Supreme Court Judge Sarath Abrew was released on a Rs. 500,000 personal bail when he was produced before Mt. Lavinia Magistrate Mohammad Sahabdeen today.

Supreme Court Judge Sarath Abrew, who was charged for assaulting his house maid, surrendered to Court this afternoon.

It was reported that the CID has recorded a statement from Judge Sarath Abrew inside the Mt. Lavinia court.

Police stated that Judge Sarath Abrew refused to give a statement when police visited him at his residence to record a statement following the complaint made by his housemaid on June 27th.

 

Meanwhile, Judge Sarath Abrew filed a fundamental rights case yesterday citing that the manner of investigating the complaint against him was illegal.

At the same time, Domestic Workers Association staged a protest against Judge Sarath Abrew on the road in front of the Supreme Court yesterday.

Supreme Court Judge Sarath Abrew who surrendered to Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court today, has been released on bail.

Supreme Court Judge Sarath Abrew, who was accused of assaulting the maid at his house, surrendered to the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today.

The maid has lodged a complaint to the police on the 27th, stating that the Supreme Court judge has assaulted her.

Later the Police provided facts to the Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court regarding the matter.
