A group led by Minister Palani Digambaran has staged a protest today against another protest that has been launched by former minister Arumugam Thondaman.

Minister Palani Digambaran launched the protest demanding former minister Thondaman to fulfill his promise.

Thondaman had earlier promised estate workers to increase their daily wage upto 1000 rupees.

Estate workers have already engaged in ‘go slow’ trade union action with regard to the wage demand.

Our correspondents stated that operation of over 60 estates has been crippled due to the ‘go slow’.

Estate Infrastructure minister Palani Digambaran also staged a protest in Talawakelle town to counter the protest by former minister Thondaman.

He stressed that Thondaman should fulfill his promise to increase estate worker daily pay upto 1000 rupees.

Meanwhile Uva Provincial Councilor Vadivelu Suresh has staged another protest in Badulla.

He stated that estate owners and leaders of the upcountry should find solutions to estate worker problems.

At the same time, estate owners have started a meeting in Colombo to find solutions to the problems of the estate workers.
