Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva said today that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa would contest the upcoming General Election from the Kurunegala District.

He announced this while addressing the SLFP electorate council of the Uva Paranagama in Badulla District.

The SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa says that the UPFA, led by SLFP would finalize its nomination list within the next two days.

Addressing a media conference held in Colombo this morning, he said that there are neither two factions nor conditions imposed by one person on the other within the party.

At this moment, journalists enquired whether nominations would be given to those who have been charged for corruption or financial misappropriations.

In response, SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said that if somebody is charged for corruption, it should be accepted only after a court verdict.

UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha also expressed his views during the media conference with regard to giving nominations to the former president.

He stated that signing the nominations for the upcoming General Election would mark a historical moment.

When a journalist asked Premajayantha whether the two presidents would meet in one campaign stage, he stated that it’s not a surprise since the former President is contesting from the same party.
