The Estate Superintendents have decided to close down tea factories till the ‘go slow’ trade union action is stopped.

Today is the fourth day of the ‘go slow’ trade union action launched by estate workers demanding increase of the daily wage up to 1000 rupees.

While the current daily wage of an estate worker is 485 rupees the workers are engaged in this trade union action demanding that it be raised up to 1000 rupees.

Our Nuwara Eliya reporter said that yesterday the estate workers had gone away after dumping on the ground in front of tea factories the tea leaves they had plucked.

The reporters said that no estate worker had turned up to estates in Badulla or Deniyaya for plucking tea leaves yesterday.

Meanwhile a group of estate workers assaulted the Hapugasthaenna Tea Estate Manager in Ratnapura last night.

Estate Manager O. K. R. Perera told our news team that the estate workers had come to the estate manager’s bungalow and caused damages to the bungalow as well.

However estate superintendents have by now decided not to pay any wage for tea leaves harvested without permission on ‘go-slow’ action.
