Gas price to be reduced by Rs. 100 ; Price of rice also to be dropped
Three proposals were approved during the special UNP Convention held at Borella Campbell Park today.
The key proposal among them was to contest the General election with all the factions who supported the victory of January 8th from elephant symbol and to establish a new party called United National Front for Good Governance following the election.
The special proposals were presented to the council by the party’s General Secretary Kabir Hashim.
Later, the proposals were seconded by the party’s Deputy Chairman Minister D.M. Swaminathan.
After Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe enquired from the members who attended the convention of their views, and the proposals were passed unanimously
The Premier then informed this to the council.
Meanwhile, speaking during the UNP Convention, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake stated that the price of a household gas cylinder will be reduced by Rs. 100 with effect from 15th of July.
In addition, the Minister stated that measures will be taken to sell 1 kg of white rice and Nadu rice at Rs. 69 in addition to 1 kg of Red Kekulu at Rs. 60.
Speaking during the convention, party’s Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa stated that only a UNP government will provide concessions to the under-privileged people.
