Charges against Dallas for dual citizenship
Two objections were filed against the Matara district UPFA nomination list today.
JVP filed objections against former MP Dalas Alahapperuma and Ape Jathika Peramuna filed the other objection against Southern Provincial councilor Manoj Sirisena.
The objections were filed citing that Alahapperuma and Sirisena posses dual citizenship.
However, the receiving officer rejected the two objections later.
However, Matara District receiving Officer B. Ranaweera said that the respective parties could go to court with regard to the matter.
A person who possesses dual citizenship is denied to enter parliament of this country under the new law introduced by the 19th Amendment that was passed on April 28th this year.
Former JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti, who filed objections against Manoj Sirisena, stated that legal action could be instituted against Dalas Alahapperuma and Manoj Sirisena if they are elected.
Meanwhile, addressing a meeting at Matara today, former MP Dalas Alahapperuma, showed his passport and stated that the objections against him was baseless.
