I was against giving nominations to Mahinda Rajapakse from the very beginning, Mahinda will never win the election, Even if the party wins there are enough deserving senior politicians for the premiership candidacy: President
President Maithreepala Sirisena addressed the nation yesterday (14) as scheduled.
According to the statement made by the president he said that he has no intentions to disrupt the smooth functioning of the SLFP and will continue to hold the chairmanship of the SLFP.
President further said in his speech that he opposed to the decision made to give nominations to former president Rajapakse and he had expressed his concern in writing. "I want to continue as the president of this country with a parliament who will support my principles. I won the presidential elections on the 8th of January on such agreement irrespective of the political party. That is the very same reason why I dissolved the parliament when they submitted the motion of no confidence against PM Wickramasinghe to prevent Mahinda Rajapaksa from becoming Prime Minister by defeating Ranil Wickramasinghe."
"I will remain impartial in the coming election and request the people to vote for those who are suitable to march forward with the January 08 mandate."
"I am against giving nominations to former president Rajapakse, if at all if SLFP wins in the upcoming elections there are several deserving senior politicians to be the Prime Minsiter."
