Release of COPE subcommittee report on Treasury bond issue prevented
The Colombo District Court issued an interim injunction preventing the release of the COPE subcommittee report over the Central Bank Treasury bond issue.
The court order was issued after a petition filed by a COPE subcommittee member and former UNP MP was considered by Colombo District Court judge Sumith Perera.
The release of the COPE subcommittee report over the Central Bank Treasury bond issue thus is prevented until July 23rd.
The petition stated that the intention of the release of the COPE subcommittee report is to target the forthcoming general election; therefore the release of the report could intimidate the August 17th election.
The petitioner has stated, the release or publicize the COPE subcommittee report over the Central Bank Treasury bond issue during election time is illegal, therefore, it has requested court to prevent the release or publicize the said COPE subcommittee report.
12 persons including COPE subcommittee chairman D.E.W. Gunasekera have been named as respondents.
