Nava Samasamaja party files petition at Supreme Court

The Nava Samasamaja Party filed a petition with the Supreme Court today citing the fundamental rights of the other candidates have been violated as former president Mahinda Rajapaksa is contesting the election while enjoying massive privileges including vehicles and security.

This petition was filed by a national list candidate of Nava Samasamaja Party Senaka Perera.

Senaka Perera, in his fundamental rights petition named 7 persons including the Election Commissioner, the IGP and the Defence Secretary as respondents.

Meanwhile, JVP Kurunegala District candidate Namal Karunarathna filed a petition today with the Human Rights Commission against former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Karunarathna, in his petition stated that the human rights of other candidates who would contest alongside the former president have been violated as Mahinda Rajapaksa has been provided special privileges.

When our news team contacted the Human Rights Commission, one of its spokesmen told us that suitable action would be taken after studying the petition.
