President Maithripala Sirisena attends 50th Independence Day of Maldives

President Maithripala Sirisena left for Maldives this evening to attend the 50th Independence Day celebration of the Republic of Maldives.

Our airport correspondent stated that the President and a 20 member delegation left the island in UL 115 passenger flight of the Sri Lankan Airlines.

According to the President's Media Unit, President Maithripala Sirisena is due to hold talks with his Maldivian counterpart Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayum.

The golden jubilee Independence celebration of Maldives will be held today.

Diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Maldives began on the 26th of July 1965, while the golden jubilee of the bilateral relations of the two countries was also celebrated today.
