Update: 21 injured when a school bus crashed after ignoring signal lights in Colombo
21 persons including school children were hospitalized when a bus carrying school children toppled near Torrington Square along Colombo – Bauddhaloka Mawatha.
Colombo National Hospital sources stated that, 11 injured students are currently receiving in-house treatment at the hospital, and their condition is not critical.
The school bus which was travelling from Kaduwela carrying students of several schools, hit a motor vehicle and toppled over near the Torrington Square this morning.
Police media spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that, at the time of the accident, students of Visaka, Mahanama, Sirimavo Bandaranaike and Isipathana were traveling in the bus.
He also stated that the bus driver had proceeded ignoring the signal lights causing the accident.

10 students have been hospitalised after the school bus they were travelling collided with a jeep in Colombo.
The injured students were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.
The accident has taken place at the Torrington junction on Bauddaloka Mawatha in Colombo.
Police are conducting further inquiries.
