Update: UPFA launches election manifesto under the theme ‘Guarantee for the future’ #GenElecSL


UPFA election manifesto was launched under the theme ‘Guarantee for the future’ in Colombo today, as a 12-fold action plan for the sake of an undefeated nation, new country and a cordial society’.

National unity, permanent reconciliation, elimination of corruption, protecting the rule of law, economic management as well as policies concerning foreign, housing, education as well as Health are also included in the manifesto.

In addition, the 12-fold action plan also includes various other policies encompassing environmental and wildlife, culture, arts and Communication-Affairs promotion in addition to sports, Youth affairs, Children and women affairs as well as investment and promotion of infrastructures.

The election manifesto also proposes a political solution within 6 months to ensure the rights of all races under a unitary state which would not exceed the 13th constitutional amendment.

In addition, the recommendations of the LLRC commission report would be implemented within a year.

The manifesto also states that it would take legal action against those who established institutes for the sake of taking political vengeance, as well as conduct an immediate investigation on the Central Bank Bonds issue.

The manifesto also pledges to offer 1.5 million new job opportunities, which includes 60 thousand in the public sector within 6 months, in addition to eradicating poverty from the country by 2020.  

The election manifesto of the UPFA was handed over to the Chairman of the Alliance - President Maithripala Sirisena at his official residence this morning.

However, Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva was not present at the manifesto launching ceremony.

Former Minister Dilan Perera – speaking to our news team – stated that the Opposition Leader could not participate in the launching ceremony as he had to attend several essential rallies in Badulla.

A guarantee for the future - UPFA launches the 12-fold manifesto - Election manifesto handed over to the President

UPFA held a ceremony to launch their election manifesto at the Henry Pedris stadium today.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as well as representatives of the party were also present at the occasion.

The 12-fold manifesto was launched under the title ‘Guarantee for the future for an undefeated nation, new country, and a cordial society’  

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa handed over the election manifesto to the Maha Sangha and leaders of other religions initially.

Later the manifesto was handed over to the UPFA General Secretary and other UPFA party leaders.

The UPFA election manifesto was handed over to President Maithripala Sirisena this morning.

According to the President’s media unit, the manifesto was handed over to the President by the General Secretary of the alliance, who was accompanied by a group of senior MPs of the party at the President’s official residence.

The 12 fold manifesto of the UPFA which was launched today comprise several policies including national unity, and permanent reconciliation, elimination of corruption as well as protecting the rule of law.

In addition the manifesto also includes policies for economic management as well as a non-aligned foreign policy.
