Police seek public assistance to identify the female body that was found in a traveling bag, abandoned at the Private bus stand of Bastian Mawatha in Pettah.

Police have introduced 3 hotlines to provide any information and the numbers are 0112 323 677, 0112 662 311 or 0112 685 151

Police media spokesman office released several photographs of the deceased woman last afternoon, and the same photographs have been published on our website www.goldfmnews.lk as well.

The body was found last morning in an abandoned traveling bag.

Police sources stated that the gold pendant worn by the deceased woman carries the symbol of “Oom”, and she was wearing an anklet as well.

Police seek public assistance to identify the female body that was found in a traveling bag, abandoned at the Private bus stand of Bastian Mawatha in Pettah.

Update : Wednesday, 29 July 2015 - 13:39 |Body of a female found inside a luggage at Bastian Mawatha bus terminal

Body of a female was found inside a luggage at Anuradhapura bus queue at the private bus terminal on Bastian Mawatha this morning.

Group of commuters at the terminal who saw the luggage without an owner has inspected the contents, and after finding the body, they have informed the Pettah Police.

A Senior Police officer in charge of Pettah stated that a group of Police officers arrived at the scene and inspected the luggage, and based on the findings they have stated that the body may belong to a female.

However, a Magistrate should inspect the relevant luggage prior to opening the luggage or sending it for an investigation.

A senior police officer attached to Fort Police station stated that a magistrate from the Hultsdorf  Number 1 Magistrate court is due to arrive at the site to conduct an inspection.

Police have cordoned the area where the luggage was found.

Police have commenced questioning and recording the statements of the commuters and workers who were present at the Bastian bus terminal.  

In addition, Police stated that they intend to inspect CCTV footage set up in the surrounding area of the bus terminal.

It is also reported that officers of the Colombo Crimes Division have also arrived at the site to assist the investigation conducted by Pettah police officers.
