As a result, Kurunegala UPFA candidate Shantha Bandara resigned from his portfolio of Deputy Minister of Mass Media today.
Expressing his views at a media briefing held in Kurunegala today, former MP Shantha Bandara stated that he had requested to convene the central working committee, but since it was not convened, he resigned from the post.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Finance Mahinda Samarasinghe says that he would not participate in the August 3rd rally held in Kalutara under the patronage of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, as a certain faction is ready to hoot him.
The deputy Minister stated that he has received threatening letters regarding the matter.
State Minister of Culture and Arts Nandimitra Ekanayake also faced a similar problem during a rally held in Matale under the patronage of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
While the state minister was addressing the rally, a group of persons in the audience hooted him.
Later attending a media briefing, the minister stated that 2 UPFA candidates from Matale District are responsible for the incident.
35 Ministers, State Ministers and Deputy Ministers representing the SLFP has served the cabinet.
However, including former MP Shantha Bandara who resigned today, 10 Ministers, State Ministers and Deputy Ministers representing the SLFP has resigned from their ministerial portfolios so far.
The resigned ministers include C.B. Ratnayake, Dilan Perera, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Tissa Karalliyadda, Eric Prasanna Weerawardena, Sudarshani Fernandopulle and Lasantha Alagiyawanna.
Prior to the resignation of Shantha Bandara today, Minister of Provincial Council and Regional Development Janaka Bandara Tennakone too resigned from his post on last Friday.
However, Fisheries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera stated that he would resign from his ministerial portfolio at a SLFP Central Working Committee meeting.
