The poster mortem in to the death of a woman whose remains were found in a bag at the Pettah Bus Stand was conducted yesterday.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that an open verdict was made on the case.

Police also stated that the mother of the deceased was unable to bear the expenditure for performing the final rites of the deceased female and hence the government will bear the expenditure for it.

Police seek public assistance to trace the suspect of the killing of a woman whose body found in a travelling bag at pettah

Police request the public to provide any information regarding the person who was involved in the killing of the woman, who was found inside a luggage at Bastian Mawatha bus terminal in Pettah, to the Colombo Crimes Division.



Police media spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that any information with regard to incident can be given by contacting:

The body of the female which was found inside a luggage at the Bastian Mawatha bus terminal in Pettah was identified by the victim’s mother, at the police mortuary.

The victim has been identified as a 34 year old woman from Wadukkodai, Jaffna.

The CCD recorded a statement has been recorded from the mother of the victim, Darmarajan Kalaiwan with regard to the investigation today.

According to the investigations conducted so far, the suspect has been identified for certain, and the video clips have been released to the media.

Police media spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara further stated that, if the public have any information regarding the suspect, they should provide the information to the Colombo Crimes Division.

Mother identifies body of the female found inside a luggage in Pettah; Details on the suspect also unravelled

The body of a female which was discovered inside a luggage at the private bus terminal on Bastian Mawatha, Pettah has been identified by the victim’s mother at the Police mortuary today.

The victim was identified as a resident of Wadukkodai in Jaffna.

The Colombo Crimes Division, which conducts an investigation with regard to the incident, has recorded a statement from the mother of the victim, Darmarajan Kalaiwan today.

Police found the body of a female when they inspected a luggage lying near Anuradhapura queue at the private bus terminal on Bastian Mawatha on the 29th.

Later, it was revealed through the initial investigations that someone has murdered the woman, stuffed her in a luggage and left it in the bus terminal

A special team of officers from the CCD is conducting an investigation concerning the body.

It was also revealed that the victim, who is a resident of Wadukkodai, Jaffna has been staying with a man at an Inn on Hetti-veediya, Colombo.

Following the lead, the police inspected the CCTV camera records, where they found a clip showing the suspect committing the murder, tucking the body in the luggage and carrying it away.

Several details have been unravelled after questioning the owner of the inn.

CCD says that they have identified the suspect for certain following the investigations conducted so far.

Accordingly, an operation is underway to arrest him.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that the body found in a travelling bag at the Pettah bus stand day before yesterday was found to be that of a resident of Wadukoddai in Jaffna.

The Police Media Spokesperson stated that the husband of the woman was employed overseas.
