Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has given out instructions to the IGP to immediately arrest those behind the shooting at a group of supporters of Minister Ravi Karunanayake in Kotahena yesterday.

The Prime Minister who visited the residence of the 42 year old female who was killed in the shooting expressed his condolences regarding the tragedy.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has also ordered to make any arrests necessary if any underworld gangsters were involved in the incident.

Police found a hybrid motor vehicle which is believed to have been used by the suspects who are connected to the shooting incident.

The shooting took place at 11.30 last morning in front of the sports ground of Kotahena St. Benedict College.

A UNP female supporter was killed and 13 others injured in the shooting.

The victims were engaged in election propaganda of minister Ravi Karunanayake at the time of the shooting.

Colombo National hospital Director Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that 14 injured persons were admitted to hospital, and a woman was pronounced dead upon admission.

A woman killed and 13 injured in a shooting at UNP supporters of Minister Ravi Karunanayaka at Kotahena

Police have found a hybrid motor vehicle which is believed to be driven by the suspects who are connected to the shooting incident of a UNP rally that was organized by minister Ravi Karunanayake at Kotahena.

Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said a T-56 magazine has also been found inside the vehicle that was abandoned near the Bloemandal Housing scheme.

The shooting took place at 11.30 this morning in front of the sports ground of Kotahena St. Benedict College.

A UNP female supporter was killed and 13 others injured in the shooting.

The victims were engaged in election propaganda of minister Ravi Karunanayake at the time of the shooting.

The witnesses said that 4 unidentified assailants, who drove a vehicle from Bloemendal direction, got off from the Hybrid without a number plate and opened fire with T-56 firearms.

Colombo National hospital Director Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that 14 injured persons were admitted to hospital, and a woman was pronounced dead upon admission.

The victim has been identified as 42-year old Sahik Siththi Nazima of Madampitiya in Colombo 15.

Dr. Jasinghe also said that surgeries were conducted on several other injured persons this afternoon.

The suspected hybrid vehicle believed to be used by the assailants has been found 600 meters away from the crime scene.

However, the IGP has handed over the investigations to the CID.
