To inspect the progress of the investigation regarding the incident where a group of supporters of Minister Ravi Karunanayake were shot at in Kotahena area, IGP N.K. Ilangakoon visited the crime scene today.
After enquiring from the officials regarding the investigation, the IGP expressed his views to the media and stated that measures would be taken to arrest the suspects of the incident immediately.
42 year old woman died in the shooting which occurred yesterday, while 12 supporters of Minister Ravi Karunanayake were hospitalized with injuries.
Director of Colombo National Hospital Doctor Anil Jasinghe stated that, 3 among them who were in critical condition are currently receiving treatment at the ICU of the National Hospital.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed the IGP to immediately arrest those who were involved in the incident.
The Prime Minister also visited the residence of the woman who died following the shooting incident last night, and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family.
Later, the Prime Minister has informed the IGP to use maximum resources of the Police department to arrest the perpetrators of the shooting incident.
In addition, the Premier also ordered the IGP to investigate any connection of underworld gangs to the incident, and make necessary arrests.
Meanwhile, Police Headquarters have released a special telephone number to inform any details with regard to the incident where a group of supporters of Minister Ravi Karunanayake was shot at in Kotahena area.
Police media spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that the relevant details can be provided to the Director of the CID by contacting his mobile number:

Furthermore, the owner of the suspicious motor vehicle found near Bluemandal apartment complex has been identified.
The CCD is assisting the CID in the relevant investigation while several police teams have also been deployed for the probe.
