Summons on Minister Rishard Badiudeen with regard to Wilpattu forest vandalism
Summons were issued to 8 persons including Minister Rishard Badiudeen to appear before the Court of Appeal with regard to the deforestation of the Wilpattu national park surrounding and resettlement of people.
The order was issued when a petition filed by the Centre for Environmental Justice was taken for hearing today.
Hiru TV CIA program constantly revealed the illegal resettlement taking place in Wilpattu northern sanctuary and Madu forest reserve.
A petition filed by the Centre for Environmental Justice regarding the matter was taken for hearing before the Court of Appeal today.
At that time, 8 respondents including Minister Rishard Badiudeen were ordered to appear before the Court of Appeal on the 16th of September.
Expressing his views to our news team, the lawyer appearing on behalf of the Centre for Environmental Justice attorney-at-law Raveendranath Dabare stated that they have provided facts concerning the trespassing, illegal forest clearance and illegal constructions adding that these offenses are punishable by law.
Furthermore he stated that the panel of judges have decided to issue summons to 8 respondents to appear before the court, including the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, former Minister Rishard Badiudeen, Central Environmental Authority and the District Secretary.
