The Foreign Employment Bureau has initiated investigations to certain advertisements that appeared in a Saudi Arabian newspaper and on a few websites to auction Sri Lankan housemaids.
Several Saudi media houses published advertisements citing that there is a Sri Lanka housemaid on sale for 25 thousand Riyals per head.
The advertisement was published by a Saudi employer.
This was extensively published on Emirates Twenty Four Seven website and Sabq newspaper.
The Foreign Employment Bureau is scheduled to educate the foreign ministry in connection with these advertisements today.
Spokesman of the Foreign Employment Bureau said that, later on, a detailed report would be called from the Sri Lankan Ambassador in that country.Update : Wednesday, 05 August 2015 - 13:00
-----------------------------------------Saudi employer offers SL housemaid for sale online
A Saudi employer offered his Sri Lankan housemaid for SR25,000 (Dh25,00) in an advertisement he published on a local auction website.
'Sabq' newspaper said the employer wrote in the ads that he wanted to end the contract with the 30-year-old maid and that she wants to work for another employer in the Gulf Kingdom for one more year before returning to her home country.
“He said in the advertisement that the maid is good in dealing with children.
"He said he is ready to give her up for SR25,000,” the paper said without naming the employer. (Emirates24/7)
