The former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga says that the country should be protected in order to protect Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

She says therefore it is of paramount importance to secure the victory achieved on January 8th.

The former president stated this while clearing her stand over the forthcoming General Election.

Issuing a 4 page communiqué, former President Kumaratunga has titled her message under the theme of “The forthcoming election and the future of the country’.

She stated former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, having secured power unexpectedly, acted against democracy and distorted the great doctrines of the SLFP.

She also regretted the party stalwarts lukewarm attitudes to protect the party, and of their political bankruptcy.

Former President Kumaratunga further said the forces which are trying hard to destroy the opportunity the country received on January 8th to build a new country, should be defeated in the General Election.

She appealed to all genuine SLFP supporters to elect civilized members to parliament in the upcoming General election and support for good governance in the country.
