The Urban Development, Water Supply and Drainage Ministry Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi said the government has no need whatsoever to privatize water resources.

He stated this in response to statements made by UPFA leaders these days.

Former MP Wimal Weerawana made a similar allegation today and said that subject minister Rauff Hakeem has already submitted a paper to the Cabinet.

However, ministry secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi said such allegations are baseless.

He further said that a proposal to appoint a water conservation commission has been submitted to the Cabinet.

Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa also accused the government saying it is going to privatize water resources.
