The police stated that measures were taken with effect from today to arrest high speed drivers on 72 routes where speed limit sign boards are erected.

Police media spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that the reason to take these measures is due to the increase of fatal accidents in the recent past.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had ordered not to sue speeding drivers of these roads until speed limit sign boards are erected.

However the road development board has erected such sign boards on 72 roads.

The Police media spokesman stated that operations were launched to arrest high speeding drivers with effect from this morning.

16A grade roads, 5 AB grade roads and 51 B grade roads are included in these 72 roads to be inspected by police for high speed driving.
