Water refinery centers in vavuniya closed: drinking water crisis for 50 thousand

By now more than 50,000 people in Vavuniya are affected as a resulted of closing down of water refining centres.

While seven persons who had been selling refined water were arrested by the Vavuniya PHIs recently, these centres have been closed in protest against this.

Centres for refining and selling water had been started under the community water supply projects as a remedy for the kidney disease that has spread in the Vavuniya district.

Reports say that water is sold at a price at a rate of Rs. 3 per litre in these centres.

Residents say that the water sold at these centres was very appropriate for solving the drinking water problem and kidney disease.

Recently the Vavuniya PHIs had arrested seven owners of these centres saying that their arrest was a court order as these sale centres had registered themselves with  the Health Ministry.
