It was revealed at the Colombo District Court today that Minister Duminda Dissanayake has been appointed as the General Secretary of the SLFP while former Minister Professor Wishwa Warnapala has been appointed as the General Secretary of the UPFA.
When our news team contacted Professor Warnapala, he said that he received today the letter of appointment with regard to the new position.
Meanwhile, a restraining order preventing Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Susil Premajayantha from functioning as General Secretaries of the SLFP and the UPFA respectively was issued today by the Colombo District Court.
The restraining order was issued after considering two petitions filed by Minister Duminda Dissanayake and Professor Wishwa Warnapala.
Minister Duminda Dissanayake and former Minister Wishwa Warnapala have separately informed Court today that they have been appointed as General Secretaries of the SLFP and the UPFA respectively by President Maithripala Sirisena.
The petitioners therefore requested Court to issue a ruling to help them function in the new positions without a problem.
Having considered the facts submitted by the petitioners, the Court issued the restraining order against Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Susil Premajayantha, which would be in force until August 28th.
Speaking to our news team Professor Wishwa Warnapala said that he has been a member of the SLFP for the last 40 years, and he accepted the position offered by President Maithripala Sirisena.
However a member of UPFA lawyers association Sagara Kariyawasam told our news team the new appointments have been made against the party constitution.
He said that the party would institute legal action against this move in due course.
