Tri Forces ready to assist election duties at any given time; a statement from Military spokesperson
Army spokesperson Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera states that the tri forces are ready to assist in election related duties if the Elections Commissioner makes a request.
He stated that the Navy and the Air Force are ready to transport ballot boxes and election officials to islands around the country.
Police said 63,000 police personnel belonging to all ranks would be deployed on election duty in view of Monday’s general elections.
They would be deployed at Elections centres, counting centres and would also carry out duties such as patrolling, manning check points and anti-riot squads.
Steps would be taken to seek the assistance of the STF and the Civil Defence Force as well.
Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that
703 persons who violated election laws have been arrested.
