3 police officers injured after jeep assigned for election duty falls into a precipice at Diyatalawa

Two persons were killed and 7 others injured in a van accident which occurred at Kodikamam area in Jaffna early this morning.

The incident occurred when a van traveling from Katunayake to Jaffna crashed into a wall at Meesalai in Kodikamam.

The injured persons were admitted to Jaffna Hospital, and later the 28 year old van driver and a 54 year old person died following the crash.

Meanwhile, a police jeep assigned for election duty in Diyatalawa area fell into a 15 meter deep precipice at a bend near Sapugahawatta tea factory at Kandurugamuwa in Diyatalaawa.

According to the police, 3 police officers aboard the jeep including a Chief Inspector, Sergeant, and a Constable received injuries following the accident and were admitted to Diyatalawa Base Hospital.

Hospital sources stated that their condition is not critical.

The injured Chief Inspector and Sergeant are attached to Kalutara Police Training School.
