The entire results of the General Election which was held to elect members to the 8th parliament have been released.

UNP secured 106 parliament seats with 13 national list MP seats.

UPFA has secured 96 parliament seats with 12 national list MP seats.

Ilangai Tamil Arasu Kachchi secured 16 parliament seats with 2 national list seats.

JVP has won 6 seats with 2 national list seats.

Muslim Congress and EPDP secured one seat each.

Among the districts won by UNP are: Colombo, Gampaha, Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Puttalam, Kegalle, Badulla, Polonnaruwa, Digamadulla and Trincomalee. 

The party won 11 seats from Colombo, 9 from Gampaha, 7 from Kandy, 5 from Nuwara Eliya, 3 seats from Matale, 5 seats each from Badulla and Puttalam, 3 seats from Polonnaruwa, 4 from Digamadulla and 2 seats from Trincomalee.

 Meanwhile, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Moneragala, Anuradhapura, Galle, Matara and Hambantota districts were won by UPFA. 

Power of the Jaffna, Vanni and Batticaloa districts were secured by Ilangai Arasu Kachchi. 

JVP which contested in coalition with the Democratic National Alliance in 2010 election was able to secure 4 seats from the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara and Hambantota.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Muslim Congress which contested alone in the Batticaloa district was able to secure one seat.

Final Results with National List allocation released


The Final results of the General Election which was held yesterday to elect members to the 8th parliament have been released.

Accordingly, the UNP which won 93 seats were awarded 13 National list seats and ended on a total of 106 seats.

The UPFA won 83 and were awarded 12 National List seats taking their total to 95.

The Ilangai Tamil Arasu Kachchi, with their 2 National List seats have secured 16 seats in total while the JVP which won 4 seats were awarded 2 National List seats taking their total to 6.

SLMC and EPDP ended with 1 seat each.

UNP wins the General Election

The entire results of the General Election which was held yesterday to elect members to the 8th parliament have been released.

Accordingly, UNP has secured power in 11 districts out of 22 districts.  UNP claims 93 parliament seats without national list MP seats.

UPFA has secured power in 8 districts without national list MP seats.  Power of the other three districts has been secured by Ilangai Tamil Arasu Kachchi, and the party claims 14 seats without national list MP seats.

JVP has won 4 seats without national list seats while EPDP has won one seat.

Among the districts won by UNP are: Colombo, Gampaha, Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Puttalam, Kegalle, Badulla, Polonnaruwa, Digamadulla and Trincomalee.  The party won 11 seats from Colombo, 9 from Gampaha, 7 from Kandy, 5 from Nuwara Eliya, 3 seats from Matale, 5 seats each from Badulla and Puttalam, 3 seats from Polonnaruwa, 4 from Digamadulla and 2 seats from Trincomalee.

It is significant for UNP to secure 2 seats from the Jaffna and the Vanni districts.

Meanwhile, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Moneragala, Anuradhapura, Galle, Matara and Hambantota districts were won by UPFA.  While UPFA won 8 seats in the Kurunegala district, UNP won 7 seats.

UPFA won the Kalutara District by securing 5 seats while UNP was able to secure 4 seats.  UPFA won 3 seats from the Moneragala District while UNP won 2 seats.  UPFA won 5 seats each from the Anuradhapura and Matara Districts while UNP secured 4 and 3 seats respectively from the two districts.

In Hambantota District, UPFA won 4 seats while UNP secured 2 seats.

UPFA won the Kalutara District by securing 5 seats while UNP was able to claim 4 seats. In Moneragala district, the alliance secured 3 seats while UNP won 2 seats. 

UPFA won 5 seats each from the Anuradhapura and the Matara Districts while UNP won 4 seats from the Anuradhapura and 3 seats from the Matara District.

Meanwhile UPFA was able to win 7 seats from the Colombo District, 8 seats from the Gampaha District, 3 seats from the Puttalam District, 5 from the Kandy District, 2 from the Matale District, 3 from the Nuwara Eliya District and 4 seats from the Kegalle District.

UPFA was able to secure 3 seats from the Badulla District, 2 seats each from the Polonnaruwa and the Digamadulla districts and one parliament seat from the Trincomalee District.

Power of the Jaffna, Vanni and Batticaloa districts were secured by Ilangai Arasu Kachchi.  The party won 5 seats from the Jaffna district.  Other two seats of the Jaffna District were won by UNP and EPDP.

Ilangai Tamil Arasu Kachchi won 4 seats in the Vanni District while the other two seats were won by UNP and UPFA.   

Ilangai Tamil Arasu Kachchi won 3 seats in the Batticaloa District and two seats from the Trincomalee and Digamadulla districts.
