The UPFA released the 12 names of those who received the party national list MP slots yesterday.

It is significant that 7 candidates who were defeated in the recently concluded general election were included.

UPFA defeated candidates Vijith Vijayamuni Soyza, S.B. Dissanayake, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana, Thilanga Sumathipala, Angajan Ramanadan and M.L.A.M. Hizbullah have been named in the national list.

However, it was noteworthy that the UPFA National List had been sent to the Elections Commissioner with the signature of Susil Premajayantha who was recently removed from the Party General Secretary post.

It was later revealed that the court order obtained against Susil Premajayantha functioning as the General Secretary had no effect on appointing the national list.

Meanwhile, the JVP appointed Former Auditor General Sarath Mayadunne and defeated candidate Sunil Handunneththi through their national list.

Attorney at Law Krishmal Warnasooriya who had however been mentioned 2nd in the national list expressed his displeasure over the appointments.

Meanwhile the TNA will appoint their national list today.

It is significant that no small party representing the UPFA had received a national list seat.

The Lanka Sama Samaja Party, Communist Party, Democratic Leftist Front and National Freedom front did not get any national list seats while the Lanka Samasamaja party which did not win any seat at the election loses their representation in parliament.

Professor Thissa Witharana expressed regret over not receiving a national list seat.
