Former Minister T.B. Ekanayake stated that he too has received a letter today stating his removal from the UPFA Executive Council.

The relevant letters have been signed by the General Secretary of SLFP Duminda Dissanayake and General Secretary of the UPFA Professor Wishwa Warnapala.

Previously former Ministers Kumara Welgama, S.M. Chandrasena and Pavithra Wanniarachchi were also removed from the Executive Council of the UPFA.

UPFA Executive Council comprises 72 members.

Among them, 48 members represent the SLFP, while the rest of the members represent other coalition parties of the alliance.

SLFP, Sri Lanka Mahajana Party, Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, and Deshawimukthi Janatha party represent the UPFA while Lanka Sama Samaja party, Sri Lanka Communist party, Democratic Left Front, and National Freedom Front contest the elections with the UPFA.

Previously former Ministers S.M Chandrasena and T.B. Ekanayake were removed from the SLFP Central Working Committee.

In addition, former MPs Bandula Gunawardena, Rohitha Abeygunawardena and Salinda Dissanayake were also removed from the Central working committee, however, they do not represent the UPFA Executive Council.
