UPFA National List Robbed? Secretary Replies
NFF leader Wimal Weerawansa says that the gravest robbery that had ever happened in a national list in the country’s political history has happened in the UPFA national list.
He stated this during a media conference held by the Common Opposition at Abhayaramaya in Narahenpita this morning.
Addressing the media, Democratic Left Front Leader Wasudeva Nanayakkara said that political decisions of certain MPs are suppressed by disciplinary hurdles.
Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila said that the UPFA could not be dissolved within the next 5 years.
Meanwhile, former UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha has released a media communiqué to reply to the allegations in naming the national list MPs.
In his communiqué, Premajayantha stated that the persons who make allegations would not have known that a restraining order against him has already been issued.
The court issued a restraining order on August 14th preventing him from functioning as the General Secretary of the UPFA.
The communiqué also stated that factions who are aiming criticism have forgotten that certain coalition parties of the UPFA have given 2 names in their national lists.
The communiqué also stated that if the SLFP and other parties did not contest under the betel leaf symbol, the result would have been different to a great extent.
It also says that these persons who criticize the former General Secretary have forgotten his commitment towards keeping the party together.
In addition it says that they do not speak about the victories secured by their parties thanks to the alliance.
The media unit of the former UPFA General Secretary further says in the communiqué that it is not ethical for the parties which reaped the greatest advantage during the election to criticize in such a manner.
The communiqué further reiterated that the supporters of the alliance and the coalition party leaders were aware of how the UPFA prepared the national list without an issue, prior to the court orders and the outcome of the election results.
Finally the communiqué stated that it is clear to everyone that the national list was prepared beyond the control of former UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha.
