No legal basis for an international investigation on war crime allegations in Sri Lanka: says Prime Minister to The Hindu
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that there is no legal basis to conduct an international investigation against Sri Lanka on the alleged war crimes.
Speaking to the Hindu, the prime minister said that there is no possibility to hold an international investigation against Sri Lanka as the country has not signed the Statute of Rome.
However, the Prime Minister explained the possibility of holding an internal investigation with regard to the matter.
He also reiterated that losing the confidence in the judiciary of the country has created the opinion of an international investigation.
Meanwhile, when questioned about devolution of power, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that a decision would be taken after discussing the matter with all factions and reaching a consensus.
He also added that, apart from the two main parties, Tamil National Alliance will also join the talks as the third faction.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe further said that citizen groups have urged to abolish the Executive Presidency, while the SLFP has objected the decision to a certain extent.
