Former Minister Susil Premajayantha resigned from the UPFA General Secretary position today.

Sending his letter of resignation to President Maithripala Sirisena, Susil Premajayantha has summarized his performance in the position from the inception of the Alliance on February 11th 2004.

He stated in his letter that he gave his cooperation to the leadership in taking crucial decisions after President Maithripala Sirisena was elected the Chairman of the SLFP following the last Presidential election.

However, he regretted the manner in which certain UPFA coalition parties acted, by holding media conferences to mislead people during the last few days.

Earlier, Susil Premajayantha stated in a media release that those who criticized his actions may not have been aware that a restraining order was issued on him preventing to function in his position.

The court issued a restraining order on the then UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha and prevented him from functioning in the position.

Susil Premajayantha also stated in his letter to the President that the election results of certain UPFA coalition parties would have differed to a great extent, if they contested under any other symbol instead of betel leaf.
