Executive Director of PAFFEREL Rohana Hettiarachchi said that these criteria should be formulated in a manner that the main purpose of appointing National List MPs was fulfilled.
The topic of National List MPs is widely discussed in society these days.
While the UPFA was entitled for naming 12 National List MPs, seven were candidates defeated at the recently held election.
While the JVP was entitled for two National List parliamentary seats, a defeated candidate was named for one of them.
Similarly the UNP National List also included a defeated candidate.
It was significant that this UNP National List candidate was one who contested for the Puttalam District from the All Ceylon People’s Congress headed by former Minister Rishaard Badiudeen and was defeated.
The ITAK has also named two candidates who had contested at the election and got defeated to fill the two National List MP positions the party is entitled to.
Political parties as well as certain civil organizations too expressed varied views about this situation.
