Although the final consensus has been reached for forming the national government, there is indecision still with regard to the post of the Opposition Leader.
Meanwhile an SLFP Assistant Chairman MP Kumara Welgama says that he is ready to accept the post of the Leader of the Opposition.
Speaking to our news team Kumara Welgama said that he had fulfilled the requirements for the post.
However participating at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday, MEP leader MP Dinesh Gunawardhana said that there was no problem with regard to the post of the Leader of the Opposition.
Earlier the SLFP sources revealed that the Opposition Leader is due to be appointed from the SLFP itself. Nimal Siripala De Silva who represented the SLFP held office as the Opposition Leader in the former government.
Meanwhile a letter declaring that the former President Mahinda Rajapakshe should be appointed as Opposition Leader signed by UPFA ministers is due to be handed over to the Speaker.
However the former President had mentioned earlier that he has no wish to accept the position of Opposition Leader, but would agree to serve as a backbencher.
