Popular actress and MP elect from the Galle District Geetha Kumarasinghe says that she withdrew her Swiss citizenship before she handed over her nominations for the last General Election.

She said that allegations made with regard to her dual citizenship are therefore rejected.

However a former MP Piyasena Gamage who represented the Galle district stated that a female MP elect from the district is having dual citizenship.

He also said that if somebody challenges the female MP elect in court, she could lose her parliamentary seat.

Seven MPs were elected to parliament in the last General Election, and Piyasena Gamage is on the 7th place of the district preferential vote list.

The 19th Amendment which was passed in parliament recently has disqualified any Sri Lankan to be elected to parliament if she or he holds dual citizenship.
