Nearly 11,000 Metric Tonnes of paddy stored at 9 centres and 120 sub centres in Polonnaruwa have been destroyed due to pests.

Societies in the area stated that the government’s failure to look in to the matter had resulted in this lost.

Farmers are severely inconvenienced as sufficient storage facilities are not available.

Meanwhile, the Paddy Marketing Board is now taking steps to provide bags to farmers for the purpose of collecting paddy for purchasing.

Farmers alleged that the price of a bag had also increased from 40 to 60 Rupees.
