Police hunting for the perpetrators of Thailand's deadliest bombing arrested a suspect today they said fit the description of a man identified on security cameras as leaving a rucksack at the site of the Aug 17th blast in Bangkok.

Police raided an apartment used by the man in northern Bangkok today, and discovered possible bomb-making materials.

But a deputy national police Chief General told reporters in a live televised broadcast this afternoon that it was "not yet clear" whether the man now detained is the same as the one in the CCTV images.

The bomb tore through the crowded Erawan Shrine in Bangkok's commercial heart on Aug 17th, killing 20 people, most of them tourists, and wounding scores more.
