The TNA says that as per Parliamentary traditions, they should be awarded the Opposition Leader post.
Issuing a communiqué the TNA says that they have sufficient representation to hold the post of Opposition Leader as the UNP and UPFA are entering a national government.
Although a decision on the post of Opposition Leader needs to be taken before the first session on the 1st of September, a final decision has not been taken yet.
S B Dissanayaka speaking after the recent meeting of the SLFP Central Committee stated that the President was empowered to decide on the Opposition Leader.
However, Leader of the National Freedom Front Wimal Weerawansa which is a part of the UPFA said that they would not accept the Opposition Leader appointed by the President.
