Invitation from President to UPFA party leaders

Leader of National Freedom Front MP Wimal Weerawansa stated that President Maithripala Sirisena has invited the coalition party leaders of UPFA for a meeting.


Expressing his views with regard to the matter during a media briefing held at party headquarters today, he further stated that his party will participate in the meeting.


General Secretary of SLFP Duminda Dissanayake stated that the coalition parties of the alliance have made a request to the President to hold a meeting.


Leader of NFF Wimal Weerawansa also stated that they cannot approve SLFP joining the national government and representing the opposition at the same time.


Our news team enquired from SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake over the stance of SLFP with regard to the request made by TNA for the post of Opposition Leader.


In response he stated that, the TNA too has the potential to make a request.


However, currently they are not aware of the number of SLFP parliamentarians intending to sit with the Opposition faction.


Therefore, the Opposition Leader of the country will be announced on the 1st of September.
