Communist party of UPFA decides to sit in the Opposition independently
Sri Lanka Communist Party has decided that their party representative Chandrasiri Gajadeera who was recently elected to parliament at the last General Election should and sit in the Opposition and act as an independent MP.
The party’s General Secretary former Minister DEW Gunasekara stated that the decision was taken during the party’s Central Working Committee meeting today.
The Communist party contested the General Election under the UPFA ticket, while its General Secretary DEW Gunasekara was entered into the National list of the UPFA.
However, he did not obtain an MP seat in the national list and he expressed his views with regard to the matter in response to an enquiry made by our news team.
Chandrasiri Gajadeera is the only MP elected from Communist Party to parliament this time.
While addressing the media following the party’s Central Working Committee meeting held today, he stated that the party has not been informed regarding a decision to act as common opposition in parliament so far.
