How to work in a National Government? - UNP and SLFP talk with President
Former Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana says that discussions were held today on how UNP and SLFP could work as one group within the proposed National Government.
UNP and SLFP appointed separate committees to work on the national government concept.
The representatives of the two committees met President Maithripala Sirisena this morning at the President’s official residence to discuss the matter for the first time.
UNP Chairman Malik Samarawickrama, former ministers Lakshman Kiriella and John Amaratunga participated on behalf of the UNP while SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake and MPs elect Nimal Siripala de Silva, W.D.J. Seneviratne, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana and Ranjith Siyambalapitiya participated on behalf of the SLFP.
Meanwhile, a protest against the proposed national government was held in front of the Galle Bus Stand this afternoon.
A Samasamaja Party member Baddegama Samitha thera who contested the last general election from the Galle district and was defeated expressed his views during the protest, saying that he would never support a national government.
