The resolution moved by Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe to obtain approval for the extended portfolios of the national government was passed in Parliament yesterday.
143 votes were obtained in favour of the resolution and there were only16 votes against. 63 members were absent when the vote took place. Accordingly the resolution passed with an excess of 127 votes.
Meanwhile the cabinet of the new government is due to be sworn in before President Maithripala Sirisena this noon at the Presidential Secretariat.
Premier Ranil Wickramasinghe too will be attending the occasion.
48 cabinet ministers and 45 state and deputy ministers are due to be sworn in today.
Accordingly the total number of ministerial, state ministerial and deputy ministerial posts in the National Government will be 93.
