The 69th anniversary commemoration of the UNP was held at the party headquarters today, under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

President Maithripala Sirisena was invited as the chief guest of the ceremony.

Leaders of the coalition parties which contested the General Election together with the UNP under the ticket of United National Front, including Rauf Hakeem, Rishard Badiudeen, P. Digambaram, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Mano Ganesan, as well as Venerable Rathana Thera in addition to leader of Democratic party Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka also participated in the UNP’s 69th anniversary commemoration.

After Vice Leader of the party Minister Ravi Karunanayake delivered the welcome address, Deputy Leader of the party Sajith Premadasa and General Secretary Kabir Hashim also addressed the ceremony.

President Maithripala Sirisena participating in the ceremony stated that UPFA would extend the hand of fellowship to the UNP in order to build a country ruled with good governance.

Later, Leader of UNP Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe addressed the party’s 69th anniversary commemoration ceremony.

In his speech, the Premier stated that he and the President would take measures to bestow a favorable future for the people, who placed the country in their hands.

Expressing his views about the National Government, The Prime Minister stated that he and President Maithripala Sirisena are drivers who do not fall asleep.

Family rule brought to an end with the sacrifice of party supporters -PM

The 69th anniversary commemoration of the UNP commenced at Sirikotha party headquarters this morning.

The commemoration is held under the patronage of Party leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, while it is significant that Chairman of SLFP President Maithripala Sirisena also participating in the commemoration ceremony.

Leaders of the coalition parties which contested the General Election together with the UNP, under the ticket of United National Front, including Rauf Hakeem, Rishard Badiudeen, P. Digambaram, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Mano Ganesan, as well as Venerable Rathana Thera in addition to leader of Democratic party Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka also participated in the UNP’s 69th anniversary commemoration.

 
The commemoration ceremony commenced after offering garlands to the statues of the late leaders of the UNP.

Vice Leader of UNP Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Deputy Leader of the party Sajith Premadasa, General Secretary Kabeer Hashim addressed the ceremony.

Later Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe addressed the 69th anniversary commemoration ceremony.

In his speech, Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the party supporters who made sacrifices to end the family rule, believed to have remained unchanged for long.

  

Addressing the commemoration ceremony, President Maithripala Sirisena stated that today’s commemoration is a historical milestone.

69th Anniversary of the UNP at Siri Kotha party headquarters today

United National Party's 69th Anniversary will be held at the party headquarters 'Sirikotha' this morning at the 9.30 under the patronage of Party Leader, Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasingha.

Chairman of SLFP, President Maithripala Sirisena is also scheduled to participate in the anniversary celebrations.

According to event organizers, the President's participation in the party event, signals a new political culture that reflects consensus building.

Newly appointed ministers and parliamentarians, leaders and deputy leaders, organizers from electorates of the United National Party and a large number of party members are expected to attend the event.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe will make a special announcement on the programme to be launched by the new government to uplift the country's economy.
